As an independent hearing aid specialist in the Detroit area, Woodward Hearing Aid Center carries a wide array of hearing aids from the leading manufacturers. We have experience with many brands, so we know which hearing aids are out there and what their strengths are. Our depth of knowledge means you can count on us to recommend hearing aids that will be a good fit for your needs.
We are not restricted to a single hearing aid manufacturer, nor do we have one particular favorite that we recommend to all patients. We find that all manufacturers have a quality that sets them apart. We work with multiple brands because one may be the perfect solution for a particular patient, while another offers the best product for another.
We balance four factors before we make a hearing aid recommendation to you:
Finding the right hearing aid is a journey of discovery that we'll take together. Sometimes we won't know for sure until we try, which is why it's important to go into this with an open mind and be willing to try a demo unit to see.
Our hearing instrument specialist makes it a point to try new hearing aids on the market himself to help him understand what patients will experience with those hearing aids. Sometimes manufacturers make big claims, but we sell the hearing aids we do because we know that they are truly effective. We offer hearing aids from Oticon, Resound, Signia, Starkey, Widex, and EarQ.
When we first fit you with a new pair of hearing aids, we'll go over everything you need to know to keep them clean and running well. Wax is one of the main reasons hearing aids fail, so we encourage patients to come see us regularly if you need your wax guard changed. Modern hearing aids make it easier than ever to change out your batteries, or you can choose to invest in rechargeable hearing aids so that you'll never need to change batteries again.
Hearing aids are a lot like mobile phones or any other sort of technology based on the "three price point" model. Most hearing aid manufacturers offer hearing aids at set price points distinguished by how advanced the technology is. Just as if you were looking to buy a new mobile phone, if you get the top-of-the-line model, you'll have all the bells and whistles.
If you don't want or need everything, other models are available at different price points with more streamlined features. The biggest difference among hearing aid models is how well they perform in difficult listening environments like restaurants or sporting events. Higher-end hearing aids have better background noise filtering.
We're happy to say that we offer the EarQ Secure 4-Year Warranty on EarQ hearing aids. Most providers only offer 1 to 3 year warranties, but only EarQ providers can offer the Secure 4-Year Warranty. The longest hearing aid warranty, Secure lets you feel confident with four years of service, repairs, cleaning, and adjustments. Inquire today!
The receiver-in-canal (RIC) model is our most popular style with 70-80% of the hearing aids we fit being RIC models. Not only are they very discreet and nearly invisible even if you're talking one-on-one with someone, they're also very comfortable and have great sound quality. The RIC puts all the processing technology and the microphone behind the ear, but the receiver itself is actually located down the ear canal, connected with a wire so there's no tube to distort the sound coming from the unit behind the ear.
The RIC is more comfortable and doesn't distort your voice because instead of a hard piece of plastic in the ear, you have a relatively soft tip in the ear. People say it feels like you're not wearing anything. Custom fit styles that go inside your ear are another style for people who desire a more discreet option. To fit these devices, we must take a mold of your ear, so the hearing aid can fit comfortably inside it.
